I'm sure everyone watching this account has seen this piece before. That's ok, though; I've updated it with a contrast boost, more details, and a completely different text layout. Needless to say, the endeavor was a giant pain in my ass. I'm just really glad to have it done.
Well, I think it's done.

Why's it so windy in New Mexico?
Because Arizona blows and Texas sucks.
(This is actually completely valid.) |

(First, rhetorical question [sort of]: how does a musician go from making this to this? And why?)
Ok, so...
Neolmas and I decided to make our way up to the Gila cliff dwellings (national park) for an overnight stay and hike for two days. The day was cooler than it's been recently and shockingly windless for here. It was, however, very sunny, with a few scattered cumulus around — a nice change to the usual cloudless skies and blazing sun endured on most days.
Around maybe 5pm, as we made our way on a winding road there, I saw that we were nearly under the leading edge of a cumulonimbus anvil, and when I looked closer, in one area under its spread there was a cluster of very impressive mammatus clouds, which is a very rare sight out here. I told Neolmas (driving) to stop the car so we could take pictures. We came up to what looked like a perfect look-out area, just around the curving bend, with an small, abandoned building (looked something like this, only more modern) and ledge that looked out over valley below.
( It gets weirder... ) |

I had a dream yesterday morning. It was one of those incredibly involved, intensely visual dreams with tons of underlying meaning and symbolism.
Near the end of it, there was a strange flying insect that looked to be scavenging on a very small, dead rodent. At first glance I thought it was a fat fly, but when I looked closer I saw the light coloured wings. It was maybe an inch across, and I never saw it actually fly.
Noticing that I didn't have a camera with me, I carefully studied its every detail and committed it to memory, even imagining how I would draw it when I got the chance so I could ask someone what species it was. Thanks to that handy little dream trick, I remembered every detail for hours and finally got to paint it.

This is exactly what it looked like. It's so weird to be able to paint something from a dream, down to the finest detail, with precision.
Those aren't legs, those are markings. I took note of how tarantula-like they were, and figured that made some sense given it was a native desert species. It seems so believable.
